What Counts as an Emergency?

If water or gas is going where it should not, ring now. Anything else can wait for a daylight booking. The urgent jobs fall into four groups:

  • A burst pipe or split braided hose flooding a laundry, bathroom or subfloor
  • A sewer or stormwater pipe overflowing in heavy rain
  • A hot water cylinder leaking onto the floor
  • A smell of gas, where the gas leak page sets out what to do before anything else

Call (02) 4063 3469 and describe the fault. The plumber comes with the right parts for what you describe.

Why Pipes Fail Suddenly on This Coast

Salt on old copper.

Mid-century beach cottages here still carry original pipe that has sat in sea air for decades. Copper thinned by salt corrosion can hold for years and then split in a single night.

Braided hoses past their life.

Houses built from the 1960s to the 1990s can still have their first flexible hoses under basins and behind the washing machine, and a worn hose can burst with no warning.

Storms on a slope.

An east-coast low drops heavy rain fast, and every weak joint or silted pipe on a block shows itself at once. The stormwater drains page explains that side.

Tanks that wear early.

Sea air shortens the life of hot water cylinders, and long-held homes keep units running past their service life. The repair-or-replace decision is set out on the hot water hub.

Burst Pipe? What to Do Before We Arrive

A burst pipe soaks floors and walls quickly, so act fast:

  1. 01

    Shut the main tap

Find the water meter near the front boundary and turn the valve off. If it will not turn, close the isolation valve at the hot water unit to limit the damage.

  2. 02

    Drain what is left

Run the garden tap closest to the ground so the water in the pipes has an exit.

  3. 03

    Stay clear of power

Where water has reached power points or appliances, keep away, and only touch the switchboard if it is dry.

  4. 04

    Ring (02) 4063 3469

Say what has burst and where, and keep the phone handy while the booking is made.

A split braided hose under a basin can be stopped at its own small isolating tap, turned by hand, which may stop the flooding before the main is off.

How an After-Hours Job Runs

  1. 01

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3469 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 02

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 03

    Make safe, then mend

The supply is isolated, the split length is cut out and replaced, and the new joint is pressure-tested before the supply is restored.

  4. 04

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

What Changes the Price at Night?

After-hours pricing starts with the hour itself. Nights, weekends and public holidays are charged at a separate rate that is quoted to you on the call.

Beyond the hour, three things shape the figure:

  • Access A split pipe in a cramped subfloor takes longer to reach than one on an open wall.
  • Pipe type Copper, galvanised and polyethylene each need their own fittings.
  • Parts The replacement valve, hose or length of pipe is included in the quote.

When We're Not the Right Call

Faults in the street

Water escaping from the main or the meter connection on the public side is Hunter Water's, and they have their own faults line, which we give you.

Water near the switchboard

If storm water or a burst pipe has reached the switchboard, stay away and call Ausgrid or an electrician first. The plumbing can wait until the power is safe.

Where the Night Run Reaches

After-hours calls are taken for the whole of Caves Beach and the suburbs beside it. Swansea, Swansea Heads and Pinny Beach have their own pages with the same number, and the night line also takes jobs from Blacksmiths and Catherine Hill Bay.

Questions From the Middle of the Night

What should I do about a burst pipe before the plumber arrives?

Turn the main tap off at the water meter and open the lowest outside tap to empty the pipes. Keep everyone away from wet power points and appliances. Then ring, describe what has split, and a plumber is booked to you.

Do you charge extra for night and weekend callouts in Caves Beach?

Yes. Work at night, on weekends and on public holidays is charged at an after-hours rate, which you hear before the booking is made. The repair itself is still priced as a fixed figure you approve on site.

Is a dead hot-water unit an emergency or can it wait?

No hot water can wait until morning. Water pouring from the tank cannot: turn off the cold isolating valve on the unit and ring. If the cylinder has failed and a new one must be ordered, a temporary tank can go in first.

My yard is flooding in a storm. Can you come out tonight?

Yes, if a blocked pipe on your land is sending water back toward the house, it can be cleared that night. Where the choke is in the public main beyond your boundary, Hunter Water handles it and we give you their faults line.
